MozYouth Foundation took another significant step in its mission to empower young Mozambicans by signing Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with Vodacom Mozambique and M-Pesa this Wednesday. The signing ceremony took place at Vodacom’s premises at 9:30 AM and was attended by representatives from all parties.
As key players in the telecommunications and financial services sectors in Mozambique, Vodacom and M-Pesa are opening their doors to 20 interns, providing a real-world environment where they can gain hands-on experience and develop essential skills, bridging the gap between the job market and Mozambican youth.
Among those present were Katia Meggy, Human Resources Director of Vodacom; Sergio Gomes, Managing Director of Vodafone M-Pesa; and Almirante Dimas, a member of the Human Resources team, who served as the moderator of the ceremony. In addition to the representatives, the ceremony was also attended by the interns, including 14 who are currently in Maputo.
On behalf of MozYouth Foundation, Pedro Santos, the Managing Director expressed his belief that “the greatest resource in Mozambique is not gas or minerals, but its youth. That is why this partnership is so important to us to empower young people and, consequently, develop Mozambique. We believe this is just the beginning of many great years of partnership. The interns here today are just the first generation, and we hope many more will follow. During 2024 MozYouth placed more than 500 interns across all provinces of Mozambique, in over 140 companies and it is great to start the year with such a Partnership. Thank you to Katia, Sergio, Vodacom, and M-Pesa for your trust.”
In his speech, Sergio Gomes highlighted: “This partnership starts with you, the interns, and I hope you pave the way for the young people who will come after you. It is with great satisfaction that we see the impact of this collaboration in communities, especially in rural areas. Currently, we have interns in Cuamba, Angónia, and Ile, ensuring that more Mozambicans have access to our services. At the same time, this allows young people in these districts to develop skills and contribute to their communities. We believe this partnership will help train talented individuals in key areas such as STEM, ensuring that Mozambique continues to progress digitally and economically.”
With these partnerships, it is expected that more young people will have access to training programs and internships in various fields, thus helping to reduce youth unemployment and boost the country’s economic growth.
