Entrepreneurs from the districts of Matola and Boane, selected from a total of a thousand registered, recently completed business management training taught by Gapi within the scope of the Nhluvuko project, which is supported by financing from Mozal.
The “Start and Develop Your Business” module, which is followed by financing for beneficiaries’ actual projects, is the third to be given, and has covered entrants working in the areas of agro-processing, metalwork, architecture, general commerce, poultry farming, aesthetics, hardware, carpentry, reprography , pharmacy, screen printing and sewing, restoration, mechanics and sheet metal, recycling and mode and education.
Delivering the diplomas, Gapi executive committee chairman Adolfo Muholove said: “We believe in the capacity and potential of women and young people, which is why they are the biggest beneficiaries of the actions of this program. We also believe that, for the success of your initiatives, financing is not enough; you need knowledge and preparation. That is why Gapi’s intervention is carried out holistically, integrating the components of training, institutional development and financing.”
Muholove also praised Mozal’s efforts to accelerate the development of communities within which it operates. “The vision of our partner, Mozal, to adopt a concept of social responsibility that empowers and leverages community businesses in a sustainable way,” Muholove said, “is an example of how the private sector can lead development processes and complement the government’s efforts towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.”
The Nhluvuko project has an initial duration of five years and aims to contribute to increasing the income, employment and living conditions of beneficiaries in the districts of Boane and Matola, by improving the operational capacity of their businesses. The project hopes to assist micro, small and medium enterprises in these two districts so that they have formalised businesses and companies with income, improving the living standards of residents of the two districts.
Since its launch just over six months ago, Nhluvuko has reached around 3,000 interested parties, including micro, small and medium enterprises based in those districts, as well as individual entrepreneurs, with particular emphasis on women and young people, some of whom have benefited from training and financing.
With the motto “Accelerating Local Development”, Nhluvuko is budgeted at around 77 million meticais and aims to contribute generally to increasing employment and income in the region.
