More than 90,000 national and foreign tourists have so far visited the province of Inhambane for the Christmas and New Year holidays, against the more-than 100,000 expected for the ‘high season’, stretching from the second week of December to the second week of January.
The figures were advanced in a preliminary assessment of the festive season by the provincial director of Culture and Tourism, Emídio Nhatumbo, who noted that a large number of visitors had still not departed.
The authorities believe that the final figure could exceed the more-than 100,000 visitors projected, taking into account the number of tourists who continue to enter the province through the Zandamela checkpoint in Zavala district, across the Save River in Govuro and via Vilankulo aerodrome and Inhambane airport.
