In Tete province, more than 5,000 citizens have been detained for recurring violations of national borders in the first quarter of this year.
The majority of those detained are Zimbabwean, Zambian and Malawian citizens, who entered Mozambique without the documents required by law.
A small number of Congolese, Somali and Pakistani illegal immigrants were also apprehended this year, noted the head of the Security Section of the border police in Tete.
Custódio Afonso was speaking about strategies to combat illegal immigration.
