Over 1500 vulnerable individuals, with a focus on both men and women, have received income-generating kits as part of the productive social action program. The beneficiaries are from the Quelimane district. The initiative will be replicated in other districts.
These are vulnerable individuals who, with the kits they received, can set their families’ lives on a path to prosperity. Each of these beneficiaries had the opportunity to choose a kit to develop their business.
The delegate from the Social Action Institute (INAS) in Zambézia, Luís Amoda, revealed that the distribution of kits, which range from bicycles to food products and others, was made possible through the productive social action program.
“These beneficiaries were engaged in community work, such as road maintenance, cleaning hospitals, and schools. Once the program was completed as designed, each participant in the cleaning work was supposed to benefit from support to ensure their livelihood. And so it happened, and each one chose what was good to start their business,” said Luís Amoda.
Francisco Pagula, the administrator of Quelimane, stated that he has no doubt that with the kits delivered, the beneficiary population has taken a step towards improving their incomes for the good of their families.
The Secretary of State, Cristina Mafumo, expressed her impression with the type of kits each person received as part of the productive social action program. Mafumo explained that at some point, she even asked the INAS delegate how, for example, one of the female beneficiaries received three bicycles. “The beneficiary chose the bicycles within the budgeted amount allocated to her. I talked to the beneficiary to find out what she would do with the items. She informed me that one of the bicycles is for going to the farm, the other is for the children to take to school, as they study far from home,” said Cristina Mafumo, adding that she is pleased with this, as it is clear that in the end, the beneficiary and her family are changing their lives.
The beneficiaries are satisfied with the kits, as they will improve their lives and those of their families. They say what they received is the result of their hard work and therefore hope the initiative is here to stay.
According to authorities, the initiative will expand to other districts in the Zambézia province.
