The National Migration Service announced on Wednesday that at least 10,000 travellers had entered Mozambique in the previous 24 hours. The total number of entries For the current festive season is expected to reach 200,000.
“Over the past few days, traffic has reached 12,000 travellers. In the last 24 hours, more than 10,000 entered the Republic of Mozambique,” National Migration Service general director Fulgêncio Seda said.
Seda gave assurances that conditions had been created to minimise the usual festive season congestion at the borders.
“The forecast for total migratory movement is over 200,000 travellers, including miners, who are expected to enter in number from tonight. For this purpose, we have seven counters at the Ressano Garcia Border especially for miners, bearing in mind that they come for only a short period of time and need to return quickly,” he added.
Regarding the eVISa electronic visa application system introduced at the beginning of December, Seda noted that more than 250 visas had already been approved, with 600 pending.
