Aeroportos de Moçambique (ADM) is investing in the modernization of airport services in all provinces, to meet current market demands.
This information was provided a few days ago by the Chair of the Board of Directors of the company, Amélia Muendane, during a working visit to Manica province.
To this end, the Chimoio airfield will have an aircraft refuelling station by the end of this year, a service that until now could only be provided in other provinces or outside the country.
“This is another step towards progress and modernization of airport services in Mozambique; we will continue working to equip all our airports,” Amélia Muendane said.
Muendane added that a public tender has already been launched to hire a company to carry out the modernisation work, but no information has been provided on the amount of expenditure involved in the project.
ADM has been arguing that the air cargo rates charged in the national market are an obstacle to the country’s competitiveness and discourage the capitalisation of air transport in the value chain of exporting and importing products.
In this context, in order to promote the desired competitiveness, it is necessary to create incentives for national producers to use air cargo to transport their products.
The airports of Maputo, Nacala and Beira are certified by ICAO and IATA, and are well equipped for handling various types of cargo, while others are in the licensing process, undergoing training in operational safety and measures to protect against illegal acts.
This process aims to ensure that all airports in Mozambique comply with international standards and increase their attractiveness to cargo transport companies.
