The town of Mocímboa da Praia in Cabo Delgado province is today celebrating 65 years of elevation to its current status – which took place on this day in 1959 – at a time when it is embracing the challenge of reconstruction post terrorist attacks and natural disasters.
The town is currently experiencing torrential rain, making reconstruction work difficult for a week now, president of the Municipal Council, Helena Bandeira, said on the occasion of the anniversary.
“Residents who have returned are committed to rebuilding their homes, but the rain does not stop,” she said, referring to the displaced people who returned to their areas.
