Mozambique: Public holiday granted for Family Day

Tete province’s Moatize-Cateme route started the day with no minibus service, and carriers demanding a fare increase.
‘Chapeiros’ are committed to a fare of 50 meticais, against the current 30 for the 37-kilometre route.
The proposal was immediately rejected by passengers, who boycotted the chapas, the 20 meticais increase being beyond their means, and, moreover, in their eyes, not approved by the competent authorities.
Faced with this impasse, Miramar found the chapas at a halt, and passengers having no means of transport.
Carriers say the recent rise in fuel prices has made their activity unsustainable.
