The village of Miticue, in Cuamba district, Niassa province, now has a maternity ward that will help reduce the number of deaths of pregnant women due to complications during childbirth and reduce the long distances they had to travel to access basic health services.
Built with an estimated at 6.5 million meticais in government funds, the maternity ward will offer prenatal consultation and family planning services, among others.
The centre was inaugurated by Niassa governor Judite Massengele on Wednesday, August 21.
The inauguration brings to 118 the number of maternity wards in operation in Niassa province, 12 of which are located in Cuamba district.
