Mozambique: MITESS wants to harmonise labour migration procedures

Minister Vitória Diogo presides the two-day National Meeting on Migrant Labour started today, organised by the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security (MITESS) with the motto “For a greater rigour in the hiring of foreign labourers”. The aim is to harmonise the legal procedures in what regards the migration of foreign workers seeking employment in Mozambique and that of Mozambican citizens working abroad.
The event is attended by members of staff from the administration of migratory labour, Provincial Inspector Chiefs, heads of Employment Centres at central and provincial level, representatives of South Africa among other entities.
It is hoped that, after the meetings, the foreign companies operating in Mozambique will reduce the number of irregularities that have been detected by the General Inspectorate of Labour regarding the violation of the Regulation of Mechanisms and Procedures for Contracting Citizens of Foreign Nationality.
