The Ministry of Health (MISAU) on Wednesday afternoon (May 6) took possession of a donation of 4,000 litres of hygiene product and 55 mobile phones, with accessories and airtime
The 80% alcohol hygiene product was donated by Cervejas de Moçambique (CDM), while the 55 mobile phones, accessories and airtime were made available by BP-Mozambique.
Delivering the material, representatives of the two companies began by praising the commitment of the government and the health authorities to controlling the pandemic and praising the decisions made so far by the Mozambican executive to prevent the spread of the disease.
The CDM and BP-Mozambique stated that they could not remain indifferent at a time when the country needed everyone to contribute to fighting the pandemic.
In reply, Minister of Health Armindo Tiago praised the two business entities’ gesture, referring to the centrality of donated products in efforts to fight Covid-19.
Regarding the hygiene material, the Minister of Health explained that it would help prevent, in addition to Covid-19, other diseases plaguing our country, where much could be achieved by the simple act of washing hands.
The cell phones, the minister said, would be allocated to teams working in the context of the pandemic, from epidemiological surveillance and the quarantining of citizens to the general public and call centres.
The Minister Tiago reaffirmed his department’s commitment to the transparent use of donations, and announced that the sector would disclose the allocation of all the donations it had received.
