The Ministry of Health (MISAU) plans to set up 4,000 tents across the country to deal with patients with fever or coughs, in an initiative intended to ensure the early detection of signs of the Covid-19 disease in communities.
“We are putting up tents at community level in what we call ‘cough and fever corners’,” National Director of Medical Assistance Ussene Issa said on Saturday on Radio Mozambique’s ‘Linha Directa’ programme. “Because these are the first symptoms – a fever and a cough. So, anyone with a cough will know to go to that tent. The purpose of this is to prevent, for example, that individual from mixing with others. And, because the health services do not stop, there will be an operator there to attend to them.”
“We are already implementing this process in a country which, as you know, is huge. We have about 1,700 hospitals in Mozambique, so all of this has to be done gradually, because it presupposes logistics, but our colleagues are hard at work in the field.”
Ussene Issa also said that the Ministry of Health had already screened around 400,000 people across the country and quarantined more than 6,000 as part of measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
