The health authorities announced yesterday that they had located the baby diagnosed in the city of Beira as positive for Covid-19, in Changara district, Tete province. The whereabouts of the child and its family had not been known since the time of the diagnosis.
‘Patient 99’ still has no symptoms of the disease, National Director of Public Health Dr Rosa Marlene told a press conference yesterday (Tuesday, 26 May).
“The mother of the minor, who voluntarily presented herself to the health authorities in Changara on Monday, claims to have fled Beira for fear of being stigmatised, and settled in her family home in Changara district, where she was less known,” Dr Marlene explained.
Marlene also made known that 240 suspected cases were tested over Monday and Tuesday, of which 236 returned negative results, leaving four infected with the new coronavirus and bringing to 213 the cumulative total, of whom 73 are accounted fully recovered and one has died – on Monday, in the city of Nampula.
“As a result. our country now has a cumulative of 213 positive cases, distributed as follows: Cabo Delgado 116 infected with 52 recovered, Nampula eight and one death, Zambézia enters for the first time with two cases, Tete, Inhambane and Gaza all have three cases. Sofala has twelve, Manica one, Maputo province 43 and 14 recovered, Maputo city 43 infected and 14 recovered,” Dr Marlene explained.
Dr Marlene explained that of the four new cases, two have symptoms and the other two are asymptomatic. The samples are from two men from the city of Nampula aged between 15 and 24 years old and between 25 and 34 years old respectively. The other two – a woman between 25 and 34 years of age and a man between 25 and 34 – are in Quelimane city, Zambézia.
Regarding the individual hospitalised in Inhambane city for Covid-19, health authorities attest to a slight improvement in, and stabilisation of, the patient’s clinical condition.
