The Ministry of Health (MIISA) and the Kenmare Moma Development Association (KMAD) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to finance the construction of a district hospital in Larde district, Nampula province.
Minister of Health Armindo Tiago, one of the signatories, explained that the works will be carried out in two phases, the health unit ultimately benefiting 73,000 citizens in the area.
He said he hoped that, as a result of the partnership, women in Larde, especially pregnant women needing Caesarean sections and other specialized treatment, would no longer have to travel long distances in search of these services.
Kenmare Director General Gareth Clifton said that the understanding reached with MISAU was “extremely important” to guaranteeing access to a full range of health services for all the district’s residents.
The laying of the first stone is scheduled for next September, with completion due by the end of 2025.
Larde, formerly an administrative post in Moma district, was elevated to district status in 2013.
