The 45 Mozambican students who recently left the country to study geosciences at the Technical Universities of Petronas in Malaysia and Freiberg in Germany were selected through a process launched in 2022 in partnership with the Scholarships Institute (IBE), in which 1,824 candidates competed.
Those selected will receive training in areas such as chemical engineering, reservoir engineering, electrical engineering, electronics, business management and oil price negotiation, among others.
In a farewell speech, the Permanent Secretary of MIREME, Teodoro Vales, called on the scholarship holders to remain dedicated throughout their training.
“Your training is of capital importance for the country, and during these approximately seven years you must do your best to honour the efforts of the government and partners and return to serve the country,” Vales said.
He noted that the students represented all the provinces of the country, 60% of them being from provinces with projects in the sector.
The students’ departure represents the training strategy approved by MIREME in 2010 with the aim of providing the country with specialized technicians able to contribute to the country’s development.
Speaking on behalf of the IBE, Isabel Matola exhorted the scholarship holders to complete the course successfully and to respect the laws and standards of the country and their place of training.
