The Ministry of Health of Mozambique on Wednesday recommended the reinforcement of preventive measures against flu in the country, warning of an increasing trend in the positivity rate.
The ministry recommends in its statement, “the reinforcement of flu prevention measures, namely: cough etiquette, reinforcement of individual and collective hygiene, disinfection or regular washing of hands and use of masks for individuals with acute respiratory symptoms”.
According to the same source, the positivity rate for the influenza virus in Mozambique – one of the main causes of acute respiratory infections – has increased in the two weeks since the end of December from 12% to 20%, although available data does not as yet report alarming numbers in health units.
“The positivity rates indicated above are within the expected limits for this time of year,” MISAU says. The ministry is implementing a flu syndrome surveillance system to monitor the epidemiological trend, seasonality and circulation of variants of the causative viruses.
“In Mozambique, infections due to these viruses occur throughout the year and the number of cases cyclically increases from January to April, with a peak in March, and between the months of June and September, with a peak in August,” the ministry indicates.
