Applications for the second edition of the Fund for Financing Audiovisual and Cinematographic Activities (CONFIAAC),launched in October this year by the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Eldevina Materula, are now open.
The fund aims to encourage the development of talent and creativity in national audio-visual and cinematographic work, a sector that has attracted a large number of young people, mainly in the main urban centres, thus becoming a force for generating employment and income.
All filmmakers, directors and producers are eligible to apply for funding.
Six million and five hundred thousand meticais (6,500,000.00mt) are available for the second edition, an amount that covers the entire country.
The competition aims to support and finance film production with a focus on new talent and first works, production of music videos, distribution and exhibition of audio-visual and cinematographic works.
The financing of video clip production, distribution and exhibition are innovation categories in this second edition, since the first edition was essentially focused on production.
For this competition, the following categories will be supported:
Production
Four short fiction projects, with a minimum of five minutes and a maximum of 12 minutes, each worth up to 600,000.00 Mts (six hundred thousand meticais);
Two documentary projects with a minimum of 15 minutes and a maximum of 30 minutes, each worth up to 650,000 Mts (six hundred and fifty thousand meticais);
Four video clip production projects, each worth up to 200,000.00 Mts (two hundred thousand meticais).
Distribution
Two projects for the distribution of audiovisual and cinematographic works, each worth up to MZN 500,000.00 (five hundred thousand meticais) for each project.
Exhibition
Two projects for the equipping, rehabilitation and adaptation of buildings for the exhibition of audiovisual and cinematographic works, each worth up to MZN 500,000.00 (five hundred thousand meticais).
Among the funding categories for this edition, distribution stands out with particular emphasis, as it represents the key element in creating markets for national audiovisual and cinematographic production.
With this category, it is expected to receive and finance projects that can guarantee the activation of this important stage in the value chain of the audiovisual and cinematographic industry, ensuring that the works can circulate and be accessed by national and international audiences, whether in the form of screenings in cinemas, on television, or at home through streaming platforms.
Audiovisual and film production has been a sector that attracts young workers, especially in the main urban centres, and has become a powerful force for generating employment and income. That is why, when launching this programme, Minister of Culture and Tourism, Eldevina Materula, encouraged all stakeholders in the education sector to open up specialized training opportunities in this area, as this will represent opportunities for professionalization.
“We encourage all entrepreneurs in the cultural and creative training sector to invest in certified training for young people in the audiovisual and film areas,” Materula stated, adding that “the government is committed to creating conditions to improve the national audiovisual and film production environment, allowing this sector to contribute to the rapid generation of jobs and income”.
The funding is granted through the National Institute of Cultural and Creative Industries (INICC), in an initiative of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism
