The Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) starts this Monday in Bali, Indonesia. Mozambique is represented by the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias, and is seeking to expand partnerships in several areas of development, with an emphasis on the energy sector, especially hydrocarbons, and on the health sector.
The forum is being attended by more than eight African heads of state and ministers from various sectors. This year’s event is expected to close several agreements with African countries and companies worth around US$3.5 billion.
The Mozambican executive is seeking new partnerships with a view to increasing investment and boosting the national energy sector. Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias, will be representing head of state Filipe Nyusi at the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum, which will be held today and tomorrow in Bali, the capital of Indonesia.
The minister was scheduled to speak at the session of leaders and heads of state, presenting the country’s energy potential as well as other sectors where Mozambique is seeking investment partnerships.
Mozambique’s Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy will also participate in a high-level panel on energy, emphasising the effective implementation of energy diversification.
The minister is also expected to chair the first meeting of the Mozambique-Indonesia Working Group, established by the heads of state of the two countries when they met in Mozambique in November 2023.
This forum aims to identify business and investment opportunities as well as improve the sharing of experiences between the two countries.
In a brief interview with the press, Carlos Zacarias said that Mozambique’s participation in the forum would also strengthen relations of friendship and cooperation.
“We hope to find specific areas. As you may know, Indonesia is investing in the national energy sector through Buzi Hydrocarbons, in partnership with the National Hydrocarbons Company (ENH), as the operator of the Búzi block in Sofala. After confirming the discovery of gas in the Búzi area, Buzi Hydrocarbons moved to the implementation phase of the evaluation program, which will last two years,” he said.
The working group created between the two countries covers eleven areas of interest, four of which are already in the first phase of development.
Indonesia is interested in the areas of mineral resources and energy, more specifically in mineral processing, health (installation of a pharmaceutical factory), sea and fisheries (aquaculture) and transport and communications.
The forum is expected to reach agreements with African countries and companies worth more than US$3.5 billion.
