The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, has appointed Minister in the Presidency for Civil House Affairs, Constantino Bacela, to represent him at the investiture of José Ramos-Horta as president of the Democratic Republic of East Timor this Thursday (19-05) and at the 20th anniversary of independence celebrations in Dili on 20 May, 2022.
According to a statement from the presidency, “Mozambique’s participation in the aforementioned events comes in response to an invitation made to the Mozambican Head of State by the Acting President of East Timor, Francisco Guterres, popularly known as Lu Olo”.
This Wednesday, Bacela met the acting East Timor president in his capacity as special envoy and bearer of a message from the Mozambican head of state to his Timorese counterpart.
The Mozambican presidency’s note describes that the meeting addressed bilateral issues linked to the historical relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries and peoples, as well as the situation of the two nations, “characterised by the recovery of their economies, severely affected by the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic”.
