The Minister of the Interior, Pascoal Ronda, has promised to find definitive solutions to the problem of salary arrears in the police, joint work on which is currently underway with the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
Salary payment delays in the police have been frequent in recent years. Police General Commander Bernardino Rafael explained in November last year that the problem was due to the transfer of payroll processing from the corporation’s General Command to the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
On the same subject, the president of the Mozambican Police Association, Nazário Muanambane, said that the introduction of the Single Salary Table (TSU), with its inexplicable failures regarding discounts, were among likely causes of the delays.
Eight months later, the priority is to resolve the problem “once and for all”, says Minister Ronda.
“I remember that a few days ago I received a group of colleagues, thirty or so in number, and they came to tell me, we are working and we are ready to continue but we have limitations related to salary, we are not receiving salaries and we take note of this concern and we at the Ministry of Economy and Finance are working hard, we are not resting, we want the salary problem to be definitively resolved,” the minister said.
Speaking at the PRM Provincial Command in Sofala, Minister Ronda also reiterated the importance of maintaining protection and security during the upcoming electoral process and called for exemplary performance by police officers.
“We must revisit the principles, law and norms that govern the electoral process,” Minister Ronda remarked.
During his visit to Sofala province, the Minister of the Interior was updated on the construction of the new SERNIC building in the city of Beira, and inaugurated a modern PRM communication system.
