Mozambique: Minister of Agriculture outraged at poor functioning of Chimunda irrigation system

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security is outraged at the poor functioning of the US$19 million Chimunda irrigation system in Govuro district, Inhambane province.
Higino Marrule said that the construction, built with the aim of boosting agrarian activity in the province, was not fulfilling the objectives it was implemented for, and had technical failings that made the irrigation of the fields difficult.
The Indian investor who was granted an area of 800 acres of irrigated land cannot realise food production potential as a result.
The Minister of Agriculture has recommended the immediate remediation of the technical errors besetting the system.
