IMF staff completes visit to Mozambique

Mozambique’s Minister of Industry and Commerce, Silvino Moreno, will represent President Nyusi at the 53rd Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.
The WEF meeting is being held under the theme “Cooperation in a Fragmented World”. It began on Monday and will continue until Friday, January 20th. The Forum engages the foremost political, business, cultural and other leaders of society in the shaping of global, regional and industrial agendas.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MIC), Mozambique’s participation constitutes a relevant opportunity to establish the necessary guidelines for the country’s economic development, in line with global initiatives and strategies, in the face of current global challenges.
This year’s Davos meeting focuses on five topical themes:
1) energy and food crises in the context of a new system for energy, climate and nature.
2) high inflation, low growth and high debt economics in the context of a new system for investment, trade and infrastructure.
3) industry headwinds in the context of a new system to harness technologies for innovation and private sector resilience.
4) social vulnerabilities in the context of a new system for work, skills and care.
5) geopolitical risks in the context of a new system for dialogue and cooperation in a multipolar world.
Key business leaders, heads of state and government, politicians, economists, cultural and social leaders, as well as intellectuals and media figures head to Davos every year to discuss the most urgent issues facing the world, as well as to debate the direction of global economic growth and possible solutions.
The four days of the meeting cover a wide spectrum of formats for interaction and learning, giving leaders the necessary tools to address the current complexity and build for the future. They revolve around the following three archetypes:
The meeting also features addresses by key heads of state and government as well as various geo-economic and geopolitical deliberations such as the Country Strategy Dialogues, Diplomacy Dialogues and the Informal Gathering of World Economic Leaders (IGWEL) meetings. It will also gather the Forum’s foremost business communities, such as the International Business Council, the Community of Chairpersons and the Industry Governors.
Many sessions are livestreamed publicly on the Forum’s website and social media channels, as well as its state-of-the-art digital app, TopLink, providing an opportunity for the Forum’s Digital Members community and the public to engage in deliberations. In addition, timely expert briefings help participants and the public gain insights on the latest developments in current affairs at the time of the meeting.

The agenda includes the participation of approximately 2,500 people such as heads of state and governments, company CEOs, civil society leaders, global media outlets, and youth leaders from Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and North America.
The World Economic Forum engages with global partners to improve the state of the world. It strives to demonstrate entrepreneurship in the global public interest while upholding the highest standards of governance.
For over 50 years, the World Economic Forum has provided space for leaders to engage in peer-to-peer deliberations in the spirit of improving the state of the world.
According to the note issued by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Mozambique, the meeting also seeks to boost tangible systems, positive change in the long term, involvement of world leaders in debates, with a view to finding ways to re-establish a collective sense of agenda and transform defensive measures into proactive policies oriented towards business vision and strategies.
Established in 1971 as a not-for-profit foundation, the Forum is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. It engages the foremost political, business, cultural and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas.
