The Minister of the Interior, Amade Miquidade, directed a drill ceremony of the VI Independent Rapid Intervention Unit Battalion in Palma, Cabo Delgado, last Wednesday (December 10).
The minister’s visit aimed to convey the encouragement of the President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of the Defence and Security Forces (FDS), Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, to the forces deployed in the northern operational theatre.
Amade Miquidade said that the troops were in that province in fulfilment of their oath during training to defend national sovereignty for the well-being of the Mozambican people.
“We are all here fulfilling the mission of our Commander-in-Chief, and we, the FDS, have a heroic mission to defend our country, from the border; the people and the wealth, and that is why we swear on the flag to defend, with sacrifice, our homeland,” he said.
Miquidade added that they were united in the same cause, and that the battalion represented part of those living heroes spread throughout the country.
He also praised their achievements in combating all kinds of challenges to national sovereignty, stressing that unity, courage and determination were needed to carry out their mission. “No one will come from outside to protect our country, if we do not we do it,” he said.
Bilibiza visit
After the ceremony, Minister Miquidade travelled to Nivico village, in Bilibiza administrative post, Quissanga district, where he inspected reconstruction work on the bridge over the Montepuez river, whose collapse during bad weather in December 2019 has since constrained communications with seven districts in northern Cabo Delgado.
Minister Miquidade subsequently held a meeting with the residents of Nivico village, where they expressed the need for seed support for the present (2020/2021) agricultural season. The minister promised to convey their concerns to the President of the Republic.
