Mozambique: Cholera kills six in Changara ,Tete province
O País / Minister of Education of Mozambique Jorge Ferrão
The Minister of Education and Human Development, Jorge Ferrao, has called on teachers, parents, guardians and society in general to work together to make schools a safer place. His call came yesterday at the opening of the 5th Educational Conference, just days after two students at Josina Machel Secondary School were involved in a knife fight.
Ferrao believes that the role of teachers is not just to teach, but to educate students in the art of living. This should involve teachers looking out for students with tendencies to deviant behaviour and trauma in order to help them overcome their disadvantages and exhibit exemplary conduct.
Minister Ferrao says that one of the biggest challenges of his department is school safety, and he called on parents to be part of the process. “The teaching and maintenance of the values of harmony, solidarity, mutual respect and exemplary self conduct are also a parent’s responsibility,” he said.
