Minister of National Defence Cristóvão Chume has since Tuesday been on a working visit to Zambézia province assessing the combat readiness of the Armed Defence Forces of Mozambique (FADM) in the centre of the country.
This Wednesday (4-10), Minister Chume visited Macuse Naval Base in Namacurra, a military unit of the Mozambique Navy which plays a preponderant role as a strategic support point for naval operations protecting territorial waters.
In addition to evaluating operational capacity, Minister Chume checked the infrastructure that makes up the unit and assessed relationships between the military and the civilian community.
On Tuesday afternoon, the defence minister visited the ‘Namatili’ in the Port of Quelimane, a vessel that has performed several crucial missions in naval and coastal operations, carrying out patrols to monitor suspicious activities and protect the country’s coastline against threats.
The visits to military units are part of ongoing efforts in the defence sector to strengthen national security and modernise the armed forces, ensuring the country’s effective defence.
