Banco Millennium BIM has donated two 12 kg clothes washer-driers to the Neonatology Service at Maputo Central Hospital (HCM), to help eliminate the dirt and bacteria which accumulate on the various types of clothing used there.
The initiative is part of the social responsibility actions that the Mozambican financial institution has been carrying out with the aim of helping improve the health and well-being of newborns treated there.
The provision of this important equipment fills a critical gap in the service.
The official handover of the machines took place on August 1 and attended by the General Director of the Maputo Central Hospital, Dr. Mouzinho Saide, as well as Doctor Joyce Ventura, head of neonatology at HCM.
The Millennium BIM representative said on the occasion that it was a source of pride to deliver these machines to a sector as sensitive as neonatology, and provided assurances of further support in the future, not only for the paediatric area but also for other services.
Director of the Neonatology Service Joyce Ventura called the offer pertinent, and stressed that it would improve the quality of the service in terms of reducing the time spent processing clothes, as well as reducing the levels of infection potentially endangering the newborns’ health.
The HCM Neonatology Service treats an average of 350 newborns requiring specialized care per month.
