Former heroin users undergoing treatment in the city of Maputo have been without methadone medication for one week.
A doctor at the Santa Filomena Health Centre in Alto Maé, Maputo, confirms that the centre has been out of methadone stocks for approximately a week, and that the centre is providing other methods of support to the patients.
Doctor Ana Manhique was unable to say when medication would again be available.
The approximately 160 methadone treatment beneficiaries are questioning the supposed interruption of supply and report that six colleagues have already lost their lives as a result of lack of medication.
