Members of Community Courts in Matola on Thursday (27-05) underwent training to improve their technical capacities and promote swift, fair and accessible justice for all, with a greater focus on local communities.
The training, themed “Legal Regime of Community Courts and Their Challenges in the Implementation of Legislation on Premature Unions”, was promoted by the Provincial Service of Justice and Labour in coordination with the National Directorate of Administration of Justice, and was supported by Justapaz.
The seminar is part of the government’s efforts to empower those who, although not explicitly integrated into the judicial system, perform similar functions at the community level, administering community justice and reinforcing good neighbourly relations, family well-being and social peace.
The opening of the training was chaired by the Secretary of State for Maputo province, Vitória Dias Diogo, who said that the training would provide members of the Community Courts with the necessary tools to improve their understanding of the harmful effects of premature union and its impact both on the individual and the girl [bride].
It would help them find ways of curbing the practice and simultaneously educate the community, becoming a reference for the good.
“It is also our expectation that this training will serve to raise the quality of intervention in the exercise of your functions in the communities where you are located, guaranteeing the social protection of the girl,” Vitória Diogo said.
