The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, will announce in Maputo at 2:00 pm today a package of fiscal and macroeconomic reform measures aimed at stimulating the economy and alleviating the rise in the cost of living in Mozambique.
“These are far-reaching economic stimulus measures, which in the medium and long term will encourage investment, both domestic and external,” a government source told ‘Carta de Moçambique’.
In total, according to the same source, “there are 22 economic reform measures” that will improve Mozambique’s competitiveness within the SADC region.
A source from the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) told Carta that “the measures are revolutionary” and “will meet the expectations of the private sector and of society”.
The same source said that the reforms include the revision of some taxes considered “suffocating” by the private sector.

The announcement comes two weeks after the head of state promised, in Zambézia, that his executive was committed to finding solutions to mitigate the high cost of living.
A communiqué received by Radio Mozambique indicates that the ceremony will be attended by members of the government, the private sector, economic associations, civil society and representatives of development cooperation partners.
Several radio and tv stations have announced that they will broadcast the Presidential address live.
