Health Minister Armindo Tiago acknowledges the possibility of a fifth wave of Covid-19 in Mozambique, and says that the considerable increase in the number of Covid-19 infections in South Africa was predictable.
The increase in Covid-19 infections in South Africa is cause for concern.
On the Mozambican side, the situation has remained stable for months, and the Minister of Health says that what is happening in the neighbouring country was predictable.
Armindo Tiago says that, if prevention measures are not strictly followed, the drama of the first to fourth waves could be repeated.
“The increase in cases in South Africa was predictable. It was already predicted that, between April and May, South Africa would see an increase in cases, with a view to the occurrence of the fifth wave. Our experience from previous waves indicates that, whenever a wave starts in South Africa, the number of cases in Mozambique also increases,” Minister Tiago said.
According to the Minister of Health, any possible increase in the number of Covid-19 infections here would, because of the ongoing vaccination process, be characterised by mild cases.
