The Mavalane Covid-19 Inpatient Centre in Maputo has had its inpatient capacity strengthened by a donation of 250 hospital beds from three companies operating in the country.
The hospital beds delivered to the Ministry of Health were donated by Banco Millennium Bim, Beluluane aluminium smelter Mozal, and Limak Cement in Maputo, united in their wish to contribute to the fight against the coronavirus, especially in the Greater Maputo area.
Representatives of the aforementioned companies moreover affirmed at the handover ceremony their willingness to continue working with government entities in the fight against Covid-19.
Minister of Health Armindo Tiago recalled that, even with the arrival of the vaccine, already being administered to health professionals, the path against Covid-19 was long.
“This act shows that there is a national awareness that, despite the start of the vaccination campaign, we still have a long way to go and we should not let our guard down, in terms of both prevention measures and the creation of conditions to assist patients in our hospitals,” Minister Tiago said.
The Ministry of Health also on Tuesday (09-03) received medical and surgical equipment donated by the Chinese government and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in the context of a project to support women and girls affected by Cyclone Idai.
The project is funded by the government of China, and the equipment and supplies, to be distributed to 32 health units in the centre of the country, will potentially assist around 400,000 women and girls.
