The Inhambane Province Judicial Court has sentenced a citizen of the Republic of Mauritius to 40 years in prison for the rape of six children aged between six months and 12 years.
The man was arrested last April in the Vilankulo district. According to ‘O País’, the authorities simultaneously detained a Mozambican teenager who had allegedly recruited minors to be sexually abused by the 52-year-old man.
Investigations revealed that the 17-year-old girl had been abused by the now-convicted rapist when she was just nine years old.
The case was triggered by workers at the accused’s holiday home, where he raped minors aged between two and 12 years old. According ‘O País’, the Mauritian had set up an automatic image capture system, through which he photographed and produced pornographic videos involving the victims.
And it was as a result of these photographs and videos being found on his mobile phone that the accused was exposed while detained for illegal driving in Mozambique. Six months later, he has been tried and convicted by the Inhambane Province Judicial Court.
The Public Prosecutor in Inhambane, Manuel Jaime, noted that the man will be expelled from Mozambique as soon as he finishes serving his sentence. Authorities are still trying to find out if there are other victims.
