The president of the Matola Municipal Council, Júlio Parruque, “vehemently condemns and expresses profound sadness and indignation at the heinous case of sexual assault involving minors” committed near the premises by students of the Machava Elementary School-Km 15.
In a statement, Parruque said that the act involved “our children, committed in broad daylight, in public, with video footage – an act that shakes and offends our culture and the moral values of our society”.
The mayor of Matola expressed solidarity with the victims of this case and encouraged all parties involved in the proceedings to continue rigorously clarifying the facts and ensuring exemplary redress for those involved.
Mayor Parruque said the Secretariat of Social Affairs and Gender would continue to closely monitor this case, ensuring the provision of psychosocial support services to those involved and their families.
Given the troubling environment, involving drug trafficking and use and alcohol consumption among young people and adolescents, as well as the challenges posed by social media, Parruque urged parents, guardians, families, communities, and the residents of Matola to rise to the challenge, assuming the role of society educators and watchdogs.
