The Maputo Provincial Directorate of Health has guaranteed that the five positive cases of the respiratory disease Covid-19 in the city of Matola are being duly monitored.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, the provincial director, Yolanda Tchamo, said the five are in home isolation and are visited by health teams every day. She was optimistic that one of them can be declared recovered on Tuesday.
“We are monitoring these five cases, we are making home visits, and we are investigating who their contacts are”, she said. “The contacts are being followed up, and they have been tested. Most of them tested negative, and we are waiting for the results of the latest tests”.
None of the five positive cases in Matola are showing any symptoms of the disease.

Witnessing the delivery of the tunnels, the Secretary of State for Maputo province, Vitoria Diogo, cited by the independent daily “O Pais”, expressed her satisfaction that there are companies in the province that can produce this equipment, thus reducing the need for imports. She urged other companies to assist in the fight against Covid-19 by producing disinfectant material.
She said the provincial government has set up an Operational Emergency Committee to follow up suspect cases of Covid-19, to monitor the supplies of essential goods in the markets, and to control price speculation.
