Minister of Transport and Logistics, João Matlombe, guarantees that the new company hired to once again restructure Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM) and make it sustainable is fulfilling its contract, and expects a new airline to be in place soon.
A month after the flag carrier’s new management committee began its activities, the government is confident in the results of the reforms.
Minister Matlombe says that LAM is once again a priority for Mozambicans and that the government is ensuring that everyone’s desire to have a reliable, functional, quality airline that is a source of pride for Mozambicans becomes a reality.
Because this process precedes the sale of 91% of LAM’s shares, potential buyers Hidroelétrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB), Empresa Moçambicana de Seguros (EMOSE) and Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique (CFM) are waiting for the company to regularize its accounts first.
CFM chairman Agostinho Langa says that only after this process is completed will the company he runs be able to inject resources.
“In terms of sharing experiences, we are already doing so, not only from CFM but also from other shareholders,” he said, explaining that, regarding the purchase of shares, there are a series of precedent conditions that must be met, the main one being the settlement of LAM’s debt.
Langa clarifies that LAM’s accounts need to be cleaned up so that all the shareholders and others who may join the initiative do not see their money contaminated when entering the coffers of the Mozambican flag carrier.
The CFM CEO is confident that the case will be resolved within three months, and that CFM is monitoring the debt settlement process. He therefore guarantees that, in the coming months, LAM will have new planes and, above all, a new look.
