The Minister of Transport and Logistics, João Matlombe, acknowledges that the services offered for the processing of driver’s licenses are not the best, and says the price paid for them is high and will be reviewed.
Regarding the closure of National Road Number One, EN1, the minister says that ongoing work on the ground will ensure its reopening by the weekend.
Getting a driver’s license in Mozambique costs 2,500 meticais or more, and involves a wait of a month at least. Minister of Transport and Logistics João Matlombe says the government is aware of the difficulties and recognizes that the quality of the services offered is not the best and has to change.
The changes should also extend to the cost, which Minister Matlombe acknowledges is very high. Regarding the interruption of traffic on National Road Number One as a result of Cyclone Jude, the minister says that work currently away on the ground should ensure that the road is reopened by the weekend.
The government is in the process of hiring a contractor to begin requalifying National Road Number One, but is not ruling out the idea of building an alternative road. João Matlombe was speaking this Thursday on the sidelines of a National Road Transport Institute technical council meeting in Maputo attended by stakeholders in the sector.
