The Municipal Council of Vila de Marracuene recently introduced the student pass to reduce transport costs for students. Buses will start operating in two weeks and the initiative will be subsidised to cover operating costs.
With the measure, the student fare for semi-public transport will reduce from 19 to 10 meticais on two buses allocated by the municipality to operate during school hours, running along the National Highway Number One (N1) and the Maputo Ring Road.
In an article published in the newspaper Notícias, the mayor, Shafee Sidat, explained that “the initiative aims to ease the burden on families of students who travel long distances every day”.
“The pass is free and issuance is already underway. Interested parties must present a declaration from the school they attend and an identity card,” Mayor Sidat said.
