“Ozangé” is a beautiful expression borrowed from Omyènè, the mother tongue of Biennial artistic director Owanto.
“The term means ‘light’,” the organisation’s press release reads.
“Transmitting through the Biennial a desire to open the way to the light, where Southern Europe, Malaga, becomes this bridge, this meeting point illuminated by a multiplicity of perspectives that raise the questions that we must look at together.
“This first edition invites artists of different African nationalities and the diaspora to present their unique submissions at the Malagueta Cultural Centre, La Térmica, the University and the streets of Malaga – particularly Calle Alameda Principal. The four different spaces promise an insightful and engaging Biennal in this vibrant and cultural Andalusian city.”
