The delay in starting the rehabilitation of the Incomati River water protection dam in Manhiça district is affecting the reopening of the Maragra sugar mill, which halted production two years ago due to the flooding of the cane fields.
The flooding of production areas forced the sugar mill’s management to abandon the project, leaving more than five thousand workers unemployed. At this time, government authorities are awaiting statements from new shareholders who will resume sugar production project and consequently restore the jobs.
To appraise the current situation, Secretary of State for Maputo Province Henriques Bongece visited the project, and said that the executive was looking forward to the restoration of sugar production at Maragra.
