In 2023, the port of Maputo welcomed a total of 14 cruise ships, with more than 16,000 tourists, and this year, the calendar foresees nine calls until May, according to official data that Lusa had access to this Tuesday.
According to the 2023 budget execution report from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, “as part of promoting Mozambique as a tourist destination, the arrival of 14 cruises at the port of Maputo stands out”.
“Coming from Asia, Europe and Southern Africa with a total of 16,167 passengers, 4,900 passengers were able to disembark, benefitting from visits to tourist sites and sampling typical Mozambican cuisine,” the report reads.
The cruise calendar at the port of Maputo, consulted by Lusa, foresees nine cruise liners docking between January and May 4th.
The budget execution report also states that, in the context of promoting tourism, “268 new tourist enterprises came into operation” in Mozambique last year, of which 107 were for accommodation, 141 for catering, and 20 agencies.
These projects generated “around 3,987 jobs in the hotel sector”, it adds.
