Authorities in the poultry sector in Maputo province are restricting the movement of birds in order to avoid contamination by the avian influenza reported in Inhambane province, Radio Mozambique reports.
Currently, the movement of poultry requires presenting a licence to the sector authorities, which includes an assessment of the health status of the animals.
At the level of associations, poultry farmers are intensifying preventative measures in poultry farms, such as disinfection and reducing contact between birds.
The president of the Poultry Farmers Association in Maputo province, Henriqueta Damas, told Radio Mozambique that restrictions were already affecting the business and income, the price of chicks on the market having already increased due to the situation.
