Maputo province has been declared cholera free, after the case of a seven-year-old boy diagnosed with the disease in the district of Matutuine was resolved.
The announcement was made this Sunday by the Provincial Director of Health in Maputo, Daniel Chemane, after 30 days’ surveillance by health authorities of the first case of the disease discovered in the region.
Chemane explained that the health sector had successfully managed the only case of cholera in the province and there was no longer any sign of the disease.
The Provincial Health Director warns however that, despite this relief, communities must continue to re-double their individual and collective hygiene measures if they are not to be surprised by the emergence of another case.
