The President of the Municipal Council of Maputo, Eneas Comiche, has encouraged diplomatic representations accredited in Mozambique to build their facilities in the new Katembe urban expansion zone, on the left bank of Maputo bay.
The Mayor of Maputo issued the invitation during the Mozambique-Kenya Business Forum in the Mozambican capital on Friday (11-08).
The event took place as part of the three-day state visit of Kenya’s President William Ruto to Mozambique.
“In this context, we are pleased to express our satisfaction that Kenya is the first country to identify space in Katembe to build its chancellery. As a pioneer, Kenya will certainly motivate other countries to follow suit,” Comiche said in his welcome to the visitors, which included Kenyan businesspeople.
The session was attended by the Mozambican and Kenyan presidents, Filipe Nyusi and William Ruto, respectively.
The Municipal Council of Maputo, according to the mayor, will remain available to all interested parties, to ensure that “together we can contribute to the development and prosperity of our beautiful city of acacias and jacarandas.”
“We want to take advantage of the presence of the Kenyan private sector to invite them to explore the potential that the country offers. In Maputo, we would like to recognize the role of Kenyan citizens who, side by side with Mozambicans, work to improve citizens’ quality of life,” Comiche said.
The mayor reiterated to the forum the willingness of the Municipality of Maputo and the Municipal Council to investments from the national and foreign private sector, “in a commitment to develop Maputo together.”
“United and cohesive, we are going to develop Maputo, a more beautiful, cleaner, enterprising and prosperous city,” he enthused.
Katembe’s new urban expansion zone, according to the mayor, offers scope for investment in areas such as real estate, commerce, industry, tourism and transport, among others, thus generating job opportunities and promoting the emergence of new centres of development.
