Mayor of Maputo Eneas Comiche this Saturday launched the Capital’s Beach Organization Program, Radio Mozambique reports.
This is part of the remodelling of spaces for the development of multiple-use activities in coastal areas.
The Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Isabel Macie, said that beach spaces would be concessioned to entities responsible for ensuring their cleanliness.
Eneas Comiche demanded beach managers use the spaces rationally.
According to the municipal council, the Beach Organization Program for the city of Maputo ends in the first half of next year.
Mayor Comiche wants to see the city’s beaches better organized and equipped to host sporting and recreational activities, while observing the principles of environmental protection.
The capital’s mayor this Saturday also launched the “Txuna Maputo com Verde” initiative, which aims to plant trees along the ring road.
“With this instrument, we hope that the beaches and the coast are organised with rational use and responsible management of all activities to be carried out, without degrading the environment, which is the responsibility of all of us. We are challenged to raise awareness of as many people as possible, to care for the environment for present and future generations,” Mayor Comiche said.
Eneas Comiche took the opportunity to thank partners for their support in furthering the project.
“We would also like to express our gratitude to our environmental, cultural and tourism partners, particularly ProSport, for embracing this project, and we hope that various sporting, cultural and leisure events will be organized on a regular basis,” he said.
The mayor alluded to the upcoming festive season, which coincides with the start of summer and the seasonal influx of beachgoers.
“We have already entered the festive season, which coincides with the beginning of summer. We know that the beach will be very popular, as usual, and we believe that the block we launch today will be an example of how we want other areas and beach blocks to be organised. According to the posture, our beaches should be equipped with support, assistance and rescue services for bathers, user information, aid stations, emergency communications, waste collection, sanitary facilities and changing rooms,” Comiche said.
Speaking on behalf of the partners, Executive Secretary of ProSport Moçambique, Hugo Leal, guaranteed that they would continue to fight side by side with the Municipal Council to achieve the defined goals and organise more and more of the city’s beaches.
Maputo’s Beach Organization Program is part of the implementation of the Protection, Management and Use of the Coast and Beaches Regime approved by the city’s municipal assembly.
