Armando Mude, provincial commander of the police in Manica, told a press conference yesterday afternoon that there was no mass grave in Manica, and that the 13 bodies found in an advanced state of decomposition under a bridge in Macossa district were collected and buried last Saturday.
“When information [about the mass grave] began circulating, a task-force comprising criminal investigation police, information and state security services and health officials, among others, travelled to Macossa to locate the grave and establish the actual circumstances of the deaths,” Mude explained.
Mude said the bodies had been buried where they were found and could not be identified as they were in an advanced stage of decomposition.
