The province of Manica last Friday (28-03) paid tribute to the Makombe dynasty by commemorating the 108th anniversary of the Barue Revolt.
At the event held in the town of Catandica, the governor of Manica praised the bravery of the Makombe dynasty as inspiring a sense of conquest and belonging among Mozambicans.
Francisca Tomás urged those present to preserve the legacy of the Makombes, developing the country using dialogue as the main vector to eliminate conflicts and consolidate peace, national unity and reconciliation.
Governor Tomás compared the bravery of the Makombes to that of young people committed to their country and now fighting to restore peace in Cabo Delgado, and called for vigilance in communities to prevent the establishment of terrorist cells.
She pledged that the Provincial Executive Council of Manica was committed to working towards the development of activities aimed at immortalising the achievements of the Makombes, as a way of affirming citizenship and cultural identity.
Cultural, sporting and recreational activities in Catandica marked the celebration of the 108th anniversary of the Barue Uprising.
