Artisanal mining associations in Manica province, central Mozambique, want the issuing of mining certificate speeded up, in order to boost activity, according to report by TV Miramar.
The number of artisanal mining associations in Manica increases daily.
Although not legalised, these associations are recognised by government authorities, Miramar reports, and carry out their activities legally.
The Miramar report notes that some of these associations already have mining certificates, while others, such as the Munhena Mining Association, do not.
Provincial Director of Mineral Resources and Energy in Manica, Silva Manuel, reassured the associations that the process had already been forwarded to the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy.
Miramar adds that Manuel offered hope to the associations, saying that, in order to obtain licenses, they must exit illegal mining and open large companies.
There are 22 associations in Manica province. The Directorate of Mineral Resources and Energy of Manica says it is looking for space to house these artisanal mining associations in order to avoid disagreements among the miners.
