A 21-year-old woman is in intensive care at Quelimane Central Hospital after being severely assaulted by her husband, allegedly for refusing to hand her son over to be trafficked.
The aggressor struck his victim on the neck and ribs with a machete, rendered her unconscious, causing serious injuries, including cervical trauma.
The beating took place last Monday in the district of Caia, Sofala province, where the couple lives.
Spokesperson for the Central Hospital of Quelimane, Aida Tomé Balança, told Radio Mozambique that the patient had been transferred to Quelimane from Caia District Hospital in Sofala.
Balança said that this was the second time this year that this young woman had been admitted to the hospital following an assault by her partner.
