Mozambican national football team coach Chiquinho Conde said that the ‘Mambas’ are looking for a good result in the match against Mali, in the first round of Group I of the 2025 African Cup of Nations (CAN) qualifiers.
After Friday’s match against the Malians in Bamako, the Mambas, whose players include Geny Catamo from Sporting, will face Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday at Maputo’s Zimpeto stadium, in a match corresponding to the second round of Group I, which also includes the Eswatini national team.
In the press conference previewing Friday night’s match in Bamako, Conde said that the team will fight for a good result, acknowledging the power of their opponents.
“We will seek a good result. That will always continue to be our motto. If we can’t win, we can never lose. Because this is indeed a test of endurance, the qualifying round doesn’t end here,” he declared.
The coach praised his opponents and highlighted the difficult start that Mozambique will have in the qualifying phase.
“Mali is a very worthy opponent. We have two games in the space of four days, a difficult start. We face Mali, a serious candidate for the title, as well as Guinea-Bissau. But given the progress we have made, with the structure and the cohesion of the team, I think we can face this with optimism,” he added.
